pP{whiteOut2} is a P element transformation vector for ends-out (gene replacement) targeting in which the transformation marker (hsp70::white) is located outside of the FRTs. This allows targeting of a genomic fragment without the transformation marker. Of course, you'll need some way to screen for targeted events, such as a mutant phenotype or a different marker (e.g., GFP expression for targeting of a fusion construct).
